Child Welfare

We at New Star Bristol Judo Club take the welfare of our members very seriously. We align ourselves to the British Judo Association who uphold the principle that all children whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity, have the right to protection from abuse. The members, staff and volunteers of the Association are committed to the welfare and protection of children so that they can enjoy sporting activities in safety without fear, threat or abuse.

In order to uphold these principles the club has appointed Anne Duke as the Child Welfare officer for Patchway and Pat Dymond for Ashton.

Their terms of reference are:

  • To act as a point of contact in all issues relating to the Welfare of young people and to ensure all appropriate documentation and forms are completed in accordance with the BJA Policy and Procedures for the welfare of young peple in Judo.
  • Ensure the club has a Child Protection Policy and implementation plan.
  • Ensure Codes of Conduct are well publicised and adhered to.
  • In consultation with the County Welfare Officer, ensure all reported incidents are managed at the appropriate level, in line with BJA procedures.
  • Ensure all relevant club members are aware of training opportunities.
  • Ensure all parents are aware of the club policy on Child Protection and the correct protocols for voicing concerns.
  • Be aware of local Social Services and Area Child Protection Committee contacts.
  • Sit on relevant committees.
  • If any immediate concern relating to the welfare of a young person arises, the Child Welfare officer will contact the relevant agencies.
  • To liaise with the Parents Forum or Club Committee and all coaches, referees and volunteers taking responsibility for young people, and all parents/guardians of joung people.
  • Ensure that all coaches and volounteers have been CRB checked, and that all Coaches and Parent Helpers on the Mat have attended a Child Protection Course.

Anne and Judy will act with only the children's best interest at heart, and the Club will brook no interference with their position or their work towards this goal. We are exploring training avenues to ensure that both Anne and Judy aren't vulnerable. To this end the club is embracing the BJA's Child Protection Policy, which we would like you to read and understand. Click here to visit the British Judo Association
