Please Note - there is no Judo on Saturday 10th May due to Brean Judo Camp.    New Star Patchway is the first judo club in South Gloucestershire to achieve the BJA Bronze Club Mark award, & the 6th in the whole of the Western area!    Saturday's Star of the Day was...    Tommy Dougall   Well Done!

Patchway Minis

Welcome!

The idea behind the Mini Section is to provide an outlet for children who are too young for Beavers, Rainbows or other sporting clubs. The age group is four and a half to seven years, after which they will then progress onto the Junior Section. Due to BJA regulations, all players must have a licence after four weeks. Players under 8 years old apply for the Kano licence, and follow the Kano grading system.

Kano Club

Grading take place approximately 3 times a year. Throughout the year children work towards attendance badges and award stickers for their Kano poster. Once a player is 8 years old they apply for a junior (Mon) licence where they then grade from red to brown belt. There is no waiting list to join this club, so just pitch up on the day and have a look to see if your child wants to join in the fun. While you're here why not get your child to try out for free. It is imperative, however, that you complete the permissions slip (contained within the membership form) before your child takes to the mat.

Coaching

The session is run by Alison Finn who is a 1st Kyu. She took over the running of the session after Sue Hannam sadly passed away in September 2003. Alison is Inclusion development officer for Wesport (West of England Sport Trust), she has attended many coaching courses in several sports and is a qualified first aider. She is also a Disability Sport tutor & has been working with children in one form or another for 10 years. Alison is assisted by Luke Tavener, 1st Dan club coach

Competition & Interclub Training

Under the BJA rules, players aged under 8 do not do competitions (however some of our under 8 players, with full licences, compete at BJC events). The sessions we hold in Bristol County are inter-club under 8 training sessions, these give the players an opportunity to train with children from other clubs, we then have mini fights to show them what they will need to do in competitions when they are 8, so that it is not as scary! ALL the children receive an attendance medal, whether or not they take part in the mini fights. I would encourage all our under 8’s to take part, please bear in mind they will need to have their Kano licences, and will need to advise in advance if they wish to attend.
